Ringed Plover

These bold little birds defend the area around their nests with great anxiety and much plaintive whistling. This is the female. Nearby the male, with a thicker black collar, was making himself equally well heard. A tiny chick, probably just a day or two old, was hidden on the gravel of the shore, almost impossible to see.
